To reduce drought and desertification in somaliland we must do a few things.
1. Plant trees in the Sheikh, Daallo and Cal Madow mountains. This will pump more water into the Togdheer and nugaal rivers making them permanent.
2. Build a dam to slow down the speed of the river so the soil and trees have more time to retain it also it creates a reservoir for agricultural use.
3. Educating nomads on the dangers of overgrazing and offering incentives to plant trees where their animals graze.
4. Setting aside land dedicated to soil repair and regreening. We Somalis are fortunate that majority of our lands are mostly arid (dry) and not a desert making repleshing the soil easy.
5. Cloud seeding
6. Ban charcoal trade it is too demanding on the environment.
7. Pray to Allah to bless us with more rain.
