There are 15 million Somalis max, with about 1 million in the west.

Go to Google Earth and see how empty Somalia is. It's all desert. I was in the miygi a few times and I did not see a single person other than my family for days while we were walking the camels looking for water and my clan is a major clan. Somali numbers are inflated. Another thing: Somalis know each other. Give me your moms name and I can get her number by the end of the day.

Many Somalis refuse to accept they aren't as 'large' of a population. Geospatial population estimates (using a combination of population data and satellite imagery) are not a reliable measure but they are a barometer of population distribution. And as you said much of Somalia is uninhabited with over half the population being (nomadic, rural, and internally displaced making them even more difficult to quantify than urban dwellers).

And their numbers are inaccurate and inflated partially owing to corruption and challenging contexts (insecurity, conflict, lack of institutional capacity, and limited resources) that make enumeration difficult.

yeah maybe 60 years ago but not now. Nomadic people are rare in today's Somalia. No more than 10% i'd say.

  1. 1975 was 47 years ago.
  2. And the UNFPA when devising a Population Estimation Survey (PESS) in preparation for a national census in 2014 estimated the total population to be 12.3 million, of which 42 percent are urban, 23 percent rural, 26 percent nomadic, and 9 percent are internally displaced (UNFPA, 2014).
    • There is assumedly 59% of this population projection that was (rural, nomadic, and internally displaced).
    • Also, 2014 was only 8 years ago so there appears to be a sizeable rural and nomadic population though I'm sure urbanization is changing that.

Have you been to Somalia lately ? if you have been you would know the reality on the ground. Nomadic or rural people are rare. The land is too poor to sustain them. In 2022 90% somalis living in Somalia are urban people eedo.

I'm not your eedo. I'm a millennial born and raised in the west. There is a higher probability of you being a fob than me being an ayeeyo. I know how to read documents and I can glean from the insights of my elders who are privy to information not readily shared here.

90% of Somalis are not urban dwellers (42%) were in 2014. What you're saying does not make sense.

No more than 20 million. Up until about 5ish years ago most people could not point out Somalia on a map.

We're quite an uncommon ethnicity :hillarybiz:

I know Somalis in Kenya surpass 6 million. Only North Eastern province was 3 million in 2009. With the high fertility rate and immigration it's safe to say 6 million in Kenya.

14-16 million Somali nationals in Somalia, of which only 12 - 14 million are mostly ethnic Somali/cushitic in ancestry, 6-8 mil in Ethiopia, 3-4 mil in Kenya, 700,000 in Djibouti. 1 - 1.5 million in the rest of the world. Gives us a number of 22.7 - 28.2.
I think there's atleast 20 million in East Africa alone.

We pop out 450k babies a year. And that's Somalia alone. If we had to add the other regions, it would probably be 600k.

So nothing to worry about :lawd:

I hope qeelbax and sophisticate contribute in the near future.

Nalaaye floxks

Life is like a sandwich, the bread comes first💰💯
Oromos and Somalis carrying Cushites, wallahi. Agaws got whooped by ancient Yemenis, our Sudanese Cushite brothers largely got defeated by nimanka Bedouin, South Cushites like the ancestors of the Tutsi rolled over for the Bantu tidal wave but WE, the East Cushites, kept it real against all odds. Even managed to create two Cushitic nations with UN membership (Somalia & Djibouti).

😭
Ig afars, oromos, bejas and us are the cushiness:(

Somalia - 15 million
Eithiopia - 6 million
Kenya - 4 million
Djabouti - 800k - 1mil
Middle East - 500k - 1 mil
Europe - 500k- 1mil
NA - 500k - 1 mil
Rest of the world 500k- 1mil

i'm suprised if somalia has more then 11 million people, 4 million in the ogaden, 2 million in kenya, 1 million in the rest of the diapora. 20 million somalis as a low ceiling
