How important is the DNA of a female when it comes to ancestry

Miniscule or not much? I read Haplogroup of females are not traceable so it's not important I guess? Please someone explain this to me.

mtDNA haplogroups mutate every 500 years. Still traceable. The Y-Chromosome is bigger and mutates almost every generation or so.
