How do you feel about Somalis running for higher office in the West?

Such as Mayor of a city or Senator of a state, do you think it does more harm to our local communities than good? Is it worth the unwanted negative attention and racism towards our local communities?

We would have gotten that negative attention even if they didn't run saxib. I think its good as long as they fight for our interests (nothing crazy, just call out cusuri, tell people their rights, etc).

You should look at the experiences of Indians, Chinese, and Jews in the West.

Chinese and other East Asian communities are financially incredible succesful, but due to their more introverted and non-confrontational cultures, they avoid pursuing public office. As a result, their lack of political representation has led to their ethnic interests being overlooked. For example, few people spoke out against the rise in anti-Asian racism during COVID-19, and China has been painted as the West’s number one enemy without much public pushback.

In contrast, Indians are actively working to gain institutional power. Despite facing setbacks, they’ve made progress. For instance, they've managed to influence U.S. Republican politicians to support policies like increasing H-1B visas, even when it contradicts the interests of their own voter base. This shows that power relies not just on capital, but also on numbers and strategic positioning. They've wrangled themselves into the west by sending out their most white passing and "Yes massa" Indians to pave the way for their interest. India is just as China a nation that in the long term will be hostile to the west but that has been completely ignored.

Then we have the Jewish community, which has managed to establish institutional influence. Even though over 80% of the general public does not support Israel or its interests, the Jewish presence in key political and economic sectors forces decision-makers to pretty much do what you want.

The reality is that the hostility toward Somalis isn’t going away, whether we move forward or stay passive. So, we might as well focus on gaining political power and strengthening our position in the West.
