How common is seeing Somali having monkey as a pet?

So right now im in Muqdisho. Yesterday i couldnt believe my eyes.

Saw young lad having small monkey pet. It was tied on a rope and it was sitting on his left shoulder.

I had so many question. I asked where did he get it from. He told me he got it from baadiyo. He even named him as Cali.

Are we seeing trend here or is it a coincidence talow?

Any wild animal is a potential virus lab. Humans got epidemics by just playing with wild animals and having them as pets. You should ask them to release that animal back to wilderness. There is a reason why pets get vaccinated, but wild animals should not be kept as pets

Its this one right here exactly. They are small size, but very common back home.
They way the people in somalia catches them is by putting tobacco in a banana, if he eats it he is going collapse for 30 mins. What u have to do is tie him up to a tree and hit him until he obeys u 😂😭

It is common to see dangerous animals kept as pets in Somalia. When I was a child, my adult neighbor had a snake that we frequently complained about as it would often come onto our property. There were many children in my family and our parents were worried that it might bite us. Additionally, while in Mogadishu, I saw several people who had pet monkeys, gazelles, and gerenuks on leashes. I don't know how they were domesticated. It was not unusual for me to see people with rabbits, sakaaro, pigeons, and other birds as pets. Domesticated animals such as goats, camels, donkeys, and sheep are also kept as pets, especially by elderly people. I remember an old man who had a donkey that he used for work, but when it got older and couldn't work anymore, he kept it as a pet. Somalia is crazy sometimes, you can see people with all sorts of animals with them.
