Yup it's a uk problem there will be some that will claim Somali ofcourse but there's a lot and a lot that dont claim it.

For sure. we even have debates about "landers" and "somalis" it's pathetic. We are too divided here sad to say.
I did say some still do claim Somali but a lot don't. And most Somalis don't deny them... maybe some on the internet but not in real life.
Your experience different from mine ofcourse but all the ones i met were wadani , its not just on the internet , its definitely present irl too

Only explanation I can think of.
It’s a racially ambigous minority with a weak(ish) identity, I don’t think its weird that they’d try to opt out. Same thing with mixed people, many don’t really grow up in a proper somali diaspora community so they’re bound to develop low racial esteem
London has the largest somali population in the world. They literally live amongst us yet choose to distance from us.
Im not talking numbers.. somalis in London don’t seem like they have a proper community 🫣 like their own institutions like schools, kindergartens, business districts like some other diasporas
Yh there's actually no community here. There used to be in the early 00s not anymore. There are some gatherings tho like hiking and university somali society so we aren't totally isolated.
Because there spread out all over the city of London north south east west in Minneapolis Somalis are concentrated on one side of the city southside same thing with Toronto Somalis are mainly in the westend
I noticed that, they’re very dispersed. I kinda feel sorry for them
Yeah the other black communities have big neighborhoods like Peckham for Nigerians or brixton for Jamaicans they are mostly concentrated in south London Somalis in London don’t have area that they are known for to that level
