How Bangladesh Surpassed India and Pakistan

Bangladesh went from second-poorest country in the world to among the richest of South Asia in per capita terms, with one industry, the Ready-made garments industry, driving its success.

Bangladesh used to be one of the richest regions in the world. In the 18th century, it accounted for 12 % of the world’s gdp whilst having 3.8 % of the world’s population, roughly the same as China. The economy of Bangladesh then was more than all of Western Europe combined. The British looted and stole so much from the region which is why it became so poor.
