AMISOM is the only reason Shabaab haven't taken over Mogadishu and the only reason they were pushed out. They wouldn't survive 24 hours without AMISOM even after all of these years the number of soldiers on paper are not the same as the actual number, they use corruption to inflate the number for salary.
