I will give you guys a serious answer
Somali parenting is traditionally gendered. The father focuses more on the son and the mother focuses more on the daughter.
Traditionally the sons would spend more time with the father following in his footsteps, taking his occupation, etc and vice versa. This is how it is.
Fathers are more strict with their sons and mothers are more strict with their daughters. I will give you guys an example of gendered parenting. In somali culture, I think the father never beats his daughters. This is clear separation. I wager this true for all somalis.
Traditionally the sons would take the fathers occupation and spent more time with him than the mother. Here in the west, this dynamic switches up. The father goes to work, while the mother stays at home. The sos spend a lot of time with the mother. The mother does not hold them to the same standard as to the daughters. She does not maybe expect the sons to cook but expects the daughters. It is the fathers job to primarily raise the son.
