This is the map of the Hoare–Laval Plan, for decades this has been seen as an example of France and England betraying allies. But interestingly it seems that the principal aims of the Ethiopian state now could have been easily met back then! In exchange for a part of Tigray, Afar, and Galbeed they would have received Assab! Of course the southern half of Ethiopia would become open to Italian industry but these days Ethiopia is home to almost all sorts of foreigners- a non issue basically.
