Not sure what was going in the north at that time maybe it has a connection to Keenadiid, the Boqor of Majerteens, and the establishment of the Hobyo Sultanate?

Yes, that was the aim on the Ogaden side in inviting the Northern Darood to Waamo. In return Harti settled around what is now parts of Kismayo district and Jamaame district they took part in the war westward led by Suldaan Cabdi Ibrahim and defensive battles against the people of KG.

Darood broke bread with even Degoodi or Garre but saw Elaay and Hawiye as something foreign because of the weird speech and farming.

It was reer bari that moved there for business first after the Ogaden migrated there after conquering from the non somali groups. It was after the the dervish war that majority of them moved especially ciise maxamuud subclan after a fierce battle had them almost wiped out by the dervishes. On punt land they had to choose between Italian or the sayid. To avoid conflict a lot of them loved to the peaceful waamo where harti were already doing business strictly.

It's been discussed and analysed in many other threads and it would be to much to summarise. In a nut shell there were always reer bari traders that was sailing between aden in modern day yemen and zanzibar in modern day tanzania it only make sense to have a loading station in between.

Around the 19th century a dispersal of northern somalis occurred where some settled in oman others in the coast of eritrea and finally some planned to settle in southern somalia. The bimaal called up some somalis from the north lead by haji ali majeerteen to help them in their wars against the gheledi and reer bari attempted to settle mungiya but the gheledi and the tunnis pushed them away.

They then settled kismayo instead and were constantly trying to take over barawe sometimes with an alliance with the ogaden but the tunni and the gheledi were pushing them back every time. Another wave of reer bari is also said to have come through the ogaden down to kismayo. Why? Most likely internal conflict in the north. Oh by the way it's wrong to say that they only settled kismayo you see the reer bari also joined the ogaden in their nfd expansion and now settle as far as islolo county.
