I'm not a Quranist huuno. I believe in hadiths that corroborate the Quran, provided they don't contradict it or invent new laws that are not in Allah's book.

The word hijab is never used in connection to women's clothing. You're right, that jilbaab and khimar are, but they don't mean to cover your entire body. Ibn Kathir says that the women of the Pagan Arabs used to wear a khimar that revealed their bosom, so Allah told them to use their khimar to cover their chest. It's the chest that the khimar was meant to cover, not their head which was already covered. The Quran basically tells women not to flash their breasts as the Pagans did. They even used to perform Hajj naked. Headcovers have nothing to do with modesty. Modest dress is covering your private parts.
