The day Somalia became cursed (Sheikh Mohamed Mataan) :

Essentiall this sheik is saying that our initial parliament after Italian rule voted against implementing Islamic law in favor of a democratic constitution in a 120-2 vote. Even those well-versed in the deen didn’t even want to rule by it, except for said two members.

If what the sheik is saying is true, no wonder jahiliya, injustice, and hypocrisy regarding the deen is so prevalent today. Our government from the get go wasn’t interested in following the deen properly. So many of our current issues could’ve been solved now with proper sharia implementation, especially in key areas (dealing with qabilyaad, ensuring education and marital rights for girls, closer vetting of so-called Islamic teachers and what they are teaching/preaching, environmental care, etc.) but no.

Makes me wonder if some of these parliament folks knew they wouldn’t get away with their bs under sharia, so they voted against it. Or perhaps they truly believed democracy would be better? Idk.

So, anyone know if what the sheik is saying is valid?

Instead of fighting an Armed Struggle, the SYL were bribed with ministries and cars and that’s when a lot of problems with current Somali politics kicked in.

Yeah SYL were Secular but some of their members were islamist, the first republic had islam as a state religion but was partially secular

Funny how people glaze the first government when it was the most corrupt and poor, FGS today is 10 times better

Whether its true or not I personally think this cursed narrative that many people is harmful and justifies a lot while hinders consequence for perpetrators if it can all boil down to the entire Somali Peninsula being cursed from an even that happened 50+ years ago.
