Starts talking about the deen and says let go pray and starts listening to lectures, and you're just thinking "wtf" dude you were just eating haram chicken what's happening to you? You're scaring me.

Then you see them the next hour doing something Haram.

But it doesn't make sense, one hour religious the next hour back to square one. That sounds bipolar to me. You should have consistency.

Eventually they forget about it and carry on with their lives like usual. My friends aren't the type to do that so I rarely see it.

Anyways, any effort a person does to become closer to Allah SWT is good. All we can do is make du’a for the person so that this newfound piety stays rather than fading away. I’d rather someone not be the so-called “perfect muslim” but strive to be better rather than look at their sins and deem themselves too far gone.
