Has anyone here successfully picked up a new language?

loool even I learned how to partly read the Cyrillic script for literally the dumbest reason. Any particular reason you chose Russian?

I can't remember what sparked it but it was a whole phase lol. I would listen to russian music/rap, read the classic lits, was obsessed with their accents, the soviet meme, liked the Anastasia & Czar history, was into communism back then/admired how they challenged America as a super power, thought those multiple layered dolls were cool, and enjoyed russian folklores, etc.
It might've even been after watching some action spy movie or something and thinking they were bada$$ haha.

DBZ Abdridged is literally the best thing on YouTube God knows how many times I've watched it. The whole thing is genius wallahi. Vegeta, Cell, Nappa and Frieza always crack me up

Fair enough. Far more sophisticated reasoning than for me picking up Cyrillic. I used to play some game and they brought in these annoying Russian players in droves. They all had their names in Cyrillic so whenever I tried to call out a players name on Skype I had no clue how to pronounce it so every time we were up against Russians it was chaotic asf.

English and Amharic, through immersion, technically.

I used that too for French lol, the only thing that seems to work with me.

Duolingo is good since it gives you a rough understanding of the grammar of the language you are learning and a decent enough of vocabulary.

I usually complete the course and then go on to study the language in books(I torrent them) and shows that are subtitled

I am decent in French,Turkish,Arabic and soon Brazilian Portuguese.

One day I will learn Mandarin

I want to learn French and Mandarin. I think Japanese was released on the site today, or it will soon be released today.
