Harla people

What became of them. Did they go extinct or assimilated into other ethnic groups ?

They got assimilated. There's a Dir subclan that claims to be what remains of Harla. They live in between Harar and Dir Dhabe. They speak a dialect called Af Xarla.

Hararis could seen as partial decedent's of Harla's as well. Hararis originated when Nur Ibn Mujahid closed the borders surrounding Harar during the Oromo raids & made a speech for all the civilians of the town to abadon their tribal identifies and unite as 1. You'd imagine there has to be some Harla's mixed in the mess of that city demographics during the time

Allegedly, Axmed Gurey's wife,Bati del Wambara was harla. But she could have been somali too.

I heard she was Harla as well. Her name doesn't sound Somali so it makes sense
