Is the dynasty in the modern age Somali or Ethiopian?
Harar kingdom was plagued with dynastic infighting between the relatives of Imām Aḥmed Gurēy (somali)and the family of ʿIsmān AlḤabashi (Habesha), Amīr Nūr's chosen successor(somali). it is clear that the dynasty was Somali until in 1567 - 1569 The former Habesha slave of Amīr Nūr, he was murdered shortly after becoming Sultan become to rule the city.
The Sulṭān Mansūr Maḥamed 1573 - 1577 was the grandson of the Slave King.

However, Imām Maḥamed "Jāsa" Ibrahim in 1577 - 1583 A relative of Imām Aḥmed Gurēy, rules the city from Imamate of Aussa.

Nothing changes until Imām Aḥmed Abrām 1646 - 1647 Grandson of Imām Ṣadiq Ṣabraddīn, Nephew of Malāq Ādan Ṣadiq. When he died the people of Harar did not accept his son ʿUmardīn Ādan as their ruler and broke away to form the Emirate of Harar.

`Ali ibn Da`ud
was the emir of Harar from 1647-71. He founded a new dynasty of rulers

The last Emir of Harar is Amir Hajji 'Abdu'llahi II ibn 'Ali 'Abdu's Shakur, (18??-1930) from 1884 (or 1885, various sources carry various dates) to January 26, 1887, when the state was terminated, following the defeat of the Harar troops at the Battle of Chelenqo (January 6) by the Kingdom of Ethiopia.

Was the first and last Emir of Harar Somali or Ethiopian?
If it was Ethiopian where does the Somali line end and
if it remains with the Somalis than who is the current head of the Harar dynasty and where are they?

The Emirate of Harar were Harari, not Somali. The Somali ruling line ended at the fall of the Imamate of Aussa.

The Imamate of Aussa was Somali before they got overthrown by the local Afar savages who then created the Sultanate of Aussa.

Where does the ‘new dynasty of harari rulers in the 17th century’ trace their lineage?

The Harari are a composite people. When Harar became the capital of the Sultanate of Adal it was a small town like Dakkar was, smaller even. Nur ibn Mujahid built strong walls to protect Harar from attack after the Amhara attacked Harar in 1559. During the Abyssinian invasions and Oromo raids, refugees flooded into Harar from all directions and the city ballooned in size and the city walls were entirely filled. This led to a mixed and diverse population of all the tribes of the Ahmar mountains.

Nur ibn Mujaid, in order to stabilize the situation in the city and prevent ethnic strife, ordered everyone in the city to abandon their abtirsi and nasab and be one tribe. This is how the Harari came to be. There are from a dozen different backgrounds, including Somali.

The population of Harar includes most of the tribes who used to populate the entire Ahmar range, including Xarla, Argobba, Hargaya, Gidaya, Gaturi and a dozen more. The largest sub-group of Harari are Gaturi, not Xarla. The Gaturi were once a strong kingdom that inhabited the western slope of the Ahmar Mountains.

The burned cities of the Harari progenitors can be found in ruins across the Ahmar mountains, a sad relic of another age.

This is a good informative post on the Harari identity.

I understand the hararis and their ethnicity but did the new dynasty mentioned have any different lineage? I doubt they wouldve had a somali emir

the new Emirate was ruled by the local Harari people, they had no Somali Emir. The last Somali ruled kingdom in that region was at Aussa, the descendants of Ahmed Gurey, who got eventually overthrown by the local Afar savages.

Ahmed Gurey was specifically said to have hailed from the Balaw tribe in the Futuh, which is a sub sub clan of the Sixawle Karanle that live in Harar-Babile region. His descendants are apparently still around.

:what1: There's no Somali lines, the Somalis accepted in the Harar dynasty had Harari ancestry. Harar proper was all of present day Somalia. This is why there's a town called Harardhere in Mudug. The descendants of the emirs are known in Harar however they are of no importance, when the dynastic rule was abolished, only retarded afar walk around with a paper tiger sultan with no actual power. Dynasty recognition is pathetic, its like saying we wuz kangs but is we kangs?

OMG, I knew you was going to be an idiot and claim that town.

First of all, Xarardhere's name comes from tall trees called "Xarar", the name means "The place with the tall Xarar trees".

It's pronounced as X, not H in English. That town was established during the Ajuran period. Go learn its history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harardhere#History

Wtf is Harar dynasty? You mean Harar Imamate that succeeded from Adal Sultanate after the Oromos surrounded Harar? Sure, go claim that history yourself.

Thanks for the reputable reference and I heard kismayo means fried rice check my blog. Why don’t you stick to the made in china version of harar called hargeysa and leave the south to me, since it’s way out of your jurisdiction. I think you believe that prior to ajuran the south was a black hole
