It’s not a problem. We’ll use residence. For example we can use IDs linked to bank account. If you don’t use a bank in Somalia, pay tax in Somalia or make a purchase there it’s clear you don’t live in Somalia.

We can swap that information with Ethiopia etc. Technology already allows this.

Here in the U.K. if you are out for 6 months, you start losing your government services rights.

EAC surely wants this, no doubt about that. Though, the border issues with Ethiopia will not end soon as we’ve had an administrative (undefined) border for most of our time as an independent country for a reason.

This will also require the government to ‘sign away’ some land in DDS, which will end up being controversial. Especially if some border communities doesn’t want to be part of Ethiopia and claim that their territory is disputed/unsettled.

You also have to know that there are state IDs. If a FMS allows all Somalis to have IDs, can the gov’t deny them citizenship?

Yeah, but you need some form of documentations to prove your identity instance when obtaining a passport. And state IDs should be sufficient to identify yourself.

No, I’m a stats and tech guy so I can see how we can clamp down on the border, I might provide part time service to the FGS in the long run on this.

What's the issue with giving all Somalis the useless Somalia citizenship, anyways? It's not like Somalia offers any welfare programs, or tax cuts to its citizens? What's with all the talk on national ID?

I think we should take the Ku Dhashay approach. Why should a Somali born in Ethiopia Kenya or Djibouti be equal to a tax paying citizen of Somalia. We need to put our citizens first instead of putting emphasis on a "somaliweyne" ideology that hasn't benefitted us in any way shape or form.

Our constitution say is that any somali regardless of where they’re born can be citizen there’s nothing you can change about that Mr. It’s colonial borders. Don’t mean nothing because certain clans live on both sides of the border you know so I don’t know how you’re gonna determine which land they should for fit because both sides is their home.

You need to have Somali nationality in order to get citizenship by birth and be able to pass it on lol
