It’s more about features tbh to them we just look arab. Atleast that’s what my dad tells me since he lives in qatar. I remember this one story he told me where a qatari guy said the only reason somalis are black is because we mixed with Sudanese and Ethiopian people and were originally arab and the reason were poor is because we call ourselves african and if we called ourselves arab we would be rich because arabs are superior. He also told my dad to stop speaking somali and that all somalis should start speaking Arabic and marry arabs to get their “arab bloodline” back. My dad lives in qatar and unfortunately that’s actually true. This one dude told my dad somalis need to mix with arabs to reclaim their arab heritage because it’s been erased because we mixed with the Sudanese and EthiopiansThey do. I grew up in the Jazeera and I can confirm that they do. Arabs in the Gulf always approached me like I was "Arab" and were confused when I'd insist I wasn't and told them Somalis had our own language and that Arabic was at best a second language. It's not their faults. We joined the Arab League afterall so it's reasonable for them to assume we are like Sudani people and speak Arabic as our first language and because of how we look they think we are Arab-SSA mixes like Somali General says.
I even remember a Palestinian guy in college telling me Somalis were basically the result of Yemenis going down to Somalia and mixing with Blacks.

Apparently samaale was a direct descendant of akhil then banu hashim too so tbh it’s somalis in general when in reality we’re just Cushitic with SOME having minimal arab blood in them. I don't think this is necessarily true. People underestimate just how much real Arab ancestry is in these Arabized regions. Sudani Arabs have a lot of J1 subclades straight from the Peninsula and you can find people in the Maghreb who can turn up as much as 60% Arabian in recent models. We were misled by earlier ADMIXTURE data. I would wager real Arab ancestry is fairly ubiquitous and not negligible across the Arabized MENA regions. But yes, these peoples are still mostly the descendants of pre-Arabs like Copts, Nubians, Berbers and Aramaeans.
I had a Syrian professor in college once urge me to improve my Arabic because it was my "mother tongue".
Generally a nice guy though so I didn't really say anything and just nodded along.I got a fair amount of racism from Arabs as a kid but when I got older they were generally brotherly and chill. They are honestly our kin in my eyes. Distant kin but kin all the same. Particularly if we are talking about Jazeera Arabs. I remember walking around museums in the Gulf and the lifestyles depicted were in essence identical to what was going on in Somalia. Their coastal towns, their boats, the nomadic way of life.
There are obvious differences but many general similarities in culture and customs and we share real ancient roots with these people and speak a language anciently related to theirs. I don't worship them or accept seeing myself as one of them at all but there is no hatred. A relative fondness more than anything but I am generally suspicious of them and their brother-brother talk because I know they're usually pretty racist toward us and Sudanis in the background and I wouldn't be shocked if some Jasem who called me his Akhi referred to me as an Abeed when I wasn't around.
This boils down to representation, Arabs clearly feel that the Hijab/Abaya is part of their cultural export so they stake a claim on it. Basically Arabs don't allow their daughters to model or don't have enough models so they want to pimp Somalis to get their kudos/international recognition as "Muslimah Beauties".
