I'm dhuxul too but that's not the point.. The point is black is an identity label for those with slave background who don't know what country or ethnic group they belong to.. You see I'm Somali, so naturally I'll identify by that label and not by what my skind color look like. Most Somalis are dhxuul so I’m not surprised

Well I've some crazy zealots who don't know anything but black and everyone who doesn't agree with their narrative is attacked viciously.I identify as Somali but I still put down black as that’s the closest option
I agree.. Well putThe only time I put down black is on official documents. I feel like when I force myself into the black community (which is mostly for ADOS) I’m taking up the space and drowning out the voices of the people who that community really belongs to.
We need to understand why the back identity is even a thing. That Identity was made for those people who’s culture and there whole identity was forcibly taken away from them. So the only thing they have left to identify with is there skin color. And when Twitter Somalis (mostly Xalimos) try to force them selves into that community it really bothers me. Like you have a culture, identity and know were your ancestors originate from.
Why can’t you let these people also have there own identity? Why do you feel the need to interfere and make your self the voice of a community you were never really part of? Can they not have one thing to themselves? You will never see an African- American identifying as Somali so why are you identifying as AA? That is not your culture and it will never be no matter how much you try to steal it from them?
Anyway thank you for coming to my Ted-Talk.
I respect that.Races like white and black is just a western construct.
The way I interpret it is that your race is what people assume you are when they set eyes on you. It doesn't necessarily equal your ethnicity, it's just what society views you as and what stereotypes you are associated with.
I personally think the whole system should be scraped because it makes no sense considering I'm fully African but people assume I am mixed aboriginals or south Asians due to my ambiguous looks.
I generally just identify with my ethnicity and when people tell me I'm black I just go along with it because to them dark-skinned African = black and it's not that big of a deal.

They want to bring us down to their level to cope. Misery loves company.Braindead beyond repair.. I had one of these things trying to force me to identify as madow because apparently Somalia was colonized by Italia, this supposedly proves we are madow
Yes. This is from an Americanized Somali and my family : My dad explained to me that we’re only considered black by law but culture and family name is more important. For my understanding, most of my Berber identifies as white. My dad, grandparents and pretty all my Somali/Berber family that Americanized became very resentful towards AAs. I’m against forced integration for this reason. The only time I put down black is on official documents. Well, the way it was explained to me is we’re technically our own people, but have a common distant ancestor, trade and religion. My Berber grandma saw herself as an African but different from maadows and not white. I was told the same about Asia. My dad told that Somalis traded with Asia and especially China. He told that martial arts started there and there’s a tournament every year.I mostly identify as Somali and maybe black depending on the situation (if I really need to). I don't really like being referred to as a colour, if we were just called African, I would claim that easily.
North Africans should have been referred to as Arabs only and subsaharan Africans as African since we're what most people think when referring to the continent (well niger congo speaking peoples anyways). Someone calling me a colour always feels like an insult but maybe that's just me.
But they also tend to change every 50 years or so. Like most people don’t understand that Latino isn’t a race. I know Ashkenazi Jews, Romani, and Armenians don’t see themselves as white. I have an Italian/Irish friend that big, but curvy, and curly dark hair. She doesn’t identify with white because the true whites are the northwestern Europeans, except the Irish. Spaniards aren’t considered real white people in the same way maadows don’t see us as real blacksThis white and black stuff is an Anglo-American concept.
However, this garbage has now spread to continental Europe and much of Africa because of American media influence, but not long ago it was extremely rare / out of the ordinary for Europeans to identify themselves as white primarily or Sub-Saharan Africans as black primarily.
This makes good sense. This white and black stuff is an Anglo-American concept.
