Google UK Hosts The First Somali Tech Event in London

Somalis in Tech kicked off their first ever in-person event of the year in London last night at the Google UK headquarters. With a global online community of over 10,000+, Somalis in Tech has been the leading support network for Somali professionals. The event-themed “Start-up Stories” featured success stories from within the Somali community.

The event opened with welcome remarks from Mohamed Abdisalam, Co-Founder of Somalis in Tech. The panel consisted of three Somali founders, Ali Abdulkadir Ali, Founder of Niyah, Ismail Jeilani, Founder of Scoodle and Fadumo Ali, Founder of Hoiwa. Each founder then shared their unique journey and experiences in starting their own company. There was also an opportunity for Somali Professionals to network after the event.

Somalis in Tech is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to all things tech, community, and culture.

They host a thriving global community where members can network, share opportunities, ask questions and bond over shared interests. They're committed to increasing the representation of Somalis and other underrepresented groups in the tech industry and using the power and knowledge of our global network for social good.

 
I see a lot of U.K. Somalis going to uni now I’m in a redbrick university in Nottingham there’s no Somali population but we have a Somali society in university
