There's a tool on Google Earth that allows you to overlay old maps onto the globe.

I overlayed a map of Africa from 1787 onto Google Earth.

East African cities, empires, states, kingdoms, etc, that I found, in their original spellings:
-Kingdom of Adel
-Kingdom of Alaba(in the territory of modern day Oromia)
-Magodocia/Magadasho(Mogadishu)
-Zeila(Saylac)
-Barbora(Berbera)
-Kingdom of Nimeamy
