Worse by a mile. Life was so much better in the 2010s, easy travel, no Covid, no major wars maybe other than Afghanistan and Iraq and your money could take you longer.
The general mood was a lot happier, even at the time of the GFC it wasn't as gloomy as this. It feels as if life has been sucked out of the people.

Technically this is the best time to be alive in human history. Imagine being a peasant pleb in medieval times dying from simple wound or just chilling in your village and getting killed by hordes of invading wecels. Heck go back look at the 20th century if you want to see real rafaad. Revolutions after revolutions and two world wars smh. Like you said OP things are magnified because of the internet but it aint all doom n gloom.

There were viruses before, but the current ones are worse and impact our lives more.
We also have to deal with LGBT identity politics bullshit, I never used to hear about these guys when I was younger.
Ukraine war impacts me here in Europe anyway, it also impacts Somalia.
In Europe, Muslims are hated way more due to the last decade ISIS and Syrian refugees.
So yh, I feel like life just gets worse and worse.
As for Somalia, idk if I should even say it's improved, it's as shit as ever.

We are at the cusp of generational change. things will get better and better.
Humans have a negativity bias. The news won't highlight that Uruguay is doing alright, but will focus on droughts, Ukraine war etc (rightly).
The overall trends in extreme poverty, life expectancy suggest now is probably the best time to be alive in history.
Not to mention the advances in technology which was impossible to envision just decades ago.
I would argue that average people in the west probably have a superior quality of life to 16th century monarchs.
That's not to say there aren't considerable challenges facing humanity, but we should be grateful we're alive today.

China/PRC being itself, constantly derails the effort to rebrand East Asian peoples. Oh, and they sort of wish to invade the f*ck out of my country at any given moment. Did I mention their inner-power struggle between Xi and Li’s inner community? Well, that’s happening too.
Taiwan is about to pick another incompetent clown as the president.
Southeast Asia consists of too many ethnic groups (Indians, Malaysians, Han immigrants). Racial tension persists in those regions. Plus the recent presidential election in Philippine guarantees something extreme is on the way.
Japan is regaining its ambition.
S.Korea is well, S.Korea. What I always find amusing of this country is that their political structure is almost like a swing. Constantly on a static balance.
