Employers today put great emphasis on soft skills and leadership skills. I would argue that the opposite is true. If you are able to demonstrate or showcase these skills in an interview, they will look past your mediocre grades. Why? Because these skills can't be taught.

As a student, you should focus on not only on your grades, but your soft skills. You also should be involved in other extra circular activities, like volunteering. These things help you distinguish yourself from the pack. You do these well enough, and you will get countless job interviews and job offers.

It doesn't apply to every industry, but it is a growing trend. Let's take the Australian Engineering Industry for instance. Companies today would much a candidate with strong teamwork, conflict resolution, and interpersonal. They would rather this candidate over the traditional engineer with high grades but is timid and awkward.
