Genetic/Ancestry Research On Somalis

It's a mix of medical and ancestry related stuff published in Nature.

The article stated that we had some genes associated with Diabetes type 1 at a very high frequency. They referenced another study from Finland that claimed Horn Africans had higher susceptibility than the Europeans, with the Eritreans (from limited data), Somalis, and Ethiopians, in that order when it came to T1D risk.

Somalis show a unique autoimmune gene variant composition different from other populations from the Horn, while other aspects with pharmacogenomics didn't change much from when we split from the Ethiosemites.

They mentioned the typical 60% Subsaharan and 40% Eurasian when it came to ancestry, which confirms what we already know. The samples were taken from Puntland.

Two Somali individuals took part in writing this paper. One of the researchers was a biomedical professor from Linköping University, and the other from Somalia, I think.
