The people in charge would give orders to kill off any Somali regardless of his background unless he is from one of the more influential clans then they will just set him up and kill him that way and then blame shabaab.

What about other former generals? Siidow claimed that it happens and even worse in broad daylight in Xamar without them being apprehended. I don't know the accuracy of those claims, but if true, it exposes how some are targeted while turning a blind eye to others.

Not seen any evidence of this. I know major generals who’ve stopped walking around with militias and given up their equipment. Others moving it to the regions etc.
