GDP of somalia compared to our neighbors last 10 years+

i thought it would be bad for somalia, but gdp almost doubled last 10 years, countries that stand out are Ethiopia and Djibouti, when Ethiopia finishes the grand Dam it will become an economic Hub

its a good thing, it means the actual real GDP growth of somalia last 10 years was 7%, plus somalia GDP in not reliant on only one thing which means the growth is sustainable. lots of people talk about Rwanda but somalia growth last 10 years was much better. Imagine if al shabaab is defeated and somalia get a real government. the growth will be double digits each year. by 2050 we our economy could be 30 times more.

Grand dam + Ankara deal. Abiy Ahmed is doing everything to progress his country, but it doesn’t help that there are lots of conflicts in Ethiopia right now.

Raising of GDP in most Africa in countries probrably due population growth rather than an increase in production.

If we go by GDP per capita than djibouti is the richest country in East Africa.

Ethiopia is known to cook up its GDP figures

It's not just him, most of the critic comes from Ethiopians of all walks of life. Here is an Ethiopian intellectual ''Professor Alemayahu'' completely bewildered by it. The Ethiopian government just farts out fake GDP growth stats and no one buys it.

If you even look at it's exports on what it reports, it doesn't even make much sense either.

Their Agricultural total export revenue is 3.3 billion and coffee made up 1.5 billion of that. The rest being sesame and fresh cut flowers.

While Uganda agricultural export revenue is around 3.9 billion. This is the same country that had net 0 yield increase with an economy of a reported 40 billion in GDP.

Also with GDP it factors in how much you also produce for domestic consumption and purchase as well, they are in no way meeting the subsistence threshold for that either with all the food shortages and famines.

There is no way you can rationalize that type of growth rate.

GERD is included in that.

The article said: ''For comparison, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) – a hydroelectric dam expected to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity once completed – is expected to cost US$4.2 billion. Even in ordinary circumstances, for a country of Ethiopia’s size and development needs, the wisdom of spending such huge sums on projects with minimal economic returns is highly questionable.''

and it further said: ''These outlays are even more perplexing in the face of recent budget cuts to several sectors, including education and new infrastructure projects. Regional states are struggling to pay the salaries of government employees. In some cases, public school teachers have gone months without pay. The reconstruction of regions destroyed by civil war has also taken the back seat while more money is being poured into military hardware.

Adjust that GDP growth with population growth and you quickly realize that Africa is poorer today than in 2013. All the "growth" we are seeing is nothing but population growth, not real economic growth. By 2030, 90% of all extremely poor people in the world will live in Africa. In 1992, it was 12%.

Somalia hasn't done a rebase btw so its much higher than 11 billion lool.
I explain it under this post
Somalia's GDP is many times higher than what it is currently is shown to be , the current 34 Billion GDP PP. Because they are using year 1991 as a base year but this is when the economy plummeted to less than 1 billion after a collapse of the govt.

Which is insane because there are many new industries and markets that didn’t exist in the past before 1991

But If you look at simply mobile money transfer in Somalia it's 34 billion which is equivalent to economies with 100 billion GDP like Kenya. Mind you Somalia has a way lower population.
This is not an aspect you can falsify and can idicate the size of the economy, so much money transitions is happening monthly but we are meant to believe that per capita it's less than 1000. A country with a GPD per capita of $500 could never have the same monthly mobile transactions ($2.7 billion in 2018) as Kenya or Ghana nor be the main trading partner of all of its neighbours.

When they do rebase as well that will factor in the new industries and markets it will suprise many. They have done a rebase in other African countries like Kenya or Ghana which showed an upgraded reality of their economy and GDP

Ethiopia is known to cook up its GDP figures

I go through it in more in-depth in this post. It's easy to see they are fabricating GDP figures because their economy is largely agricultural, it's hard to fake agricultural output and make it look convincing.
Firstly other African countries are not creating fake outlandish exaggerated growth rates.

China and IMF relies on stats produced by the countries government, they don't make independent assessments of their own of it. It's usually done by economists apart from them.

Secondly because it's agricultural it's fairly easy to check it and the fake stats fall apart, because we know they aren't exporting much of anything other than agricultural products.

So how are they producing enough agricultural products when they are suffering from chronic drought, food shortages, famine and have to rely on aid?

''but agriculture is a tricky sector whose output is not easy to lie about''

1736755530765.png
And how are they having such exponential high agricultural output , especially so much more than Kenya whose agricultural sector is more advanced. 66% kulaha lmaao

Even the USDA called the Ethiopian government out in their report, where they inflate the agricultural output numbers.

What GDP exists in Djibouti? Magic numbers vs what people eyes observe in the country is a big mismatch. Renting bases is the only revenues they get there, a war economy, and Ethiopia import needs(declining). I love how U can fool Somali write him a number he bows not says show me where.

Where is this huge consumption happening pinpoint it in Djibouti not their spreadsheets they send to IMF 😂 where is this production happening and jobs? Where is this huge govt spending happening and exports where are these ships leaving with anything from Djibouti except refugees? Djibouti fakes it's GDP statistic to the IMF cause it can't prove where all this is happening.

Djibouti is the riskiest country in the world, it can take one call 🤙 from a country over interest especially France and the west and countries business men could suffer great disruption to any investment and everything U put in there goes into a loss cycle. Investors need rule of law(political safety) not strong men as their first priority and infrastructure is secondary, human talent pool is last. Djibouti anything it does today cannot be guaranteed to last due it's dictatorship.

If PL wants to win and beat all Africa they need to hone and develop what Africa weakness is and develop a competitive edge which is good governance, rule of law, political stability and establish a predictable govt not a volatile govt cause investors hate disruption or any perceived or potential for disruption.

Then move into evidence based politics not forging numbers but proving your formulas and then showing it(this will make investors run in as evidence wins the long game not fraud).

Then create the hard and soft infrastructure not thru randomness but following a calculated plan based on priority and needs of the masses and business interest(round table for collecting this data from locals, same with investors) not world bank technocrats.

Technocrats do not understand the real needs of businesses and locals and govt game plan. For god sakes stop the copy n paste(it shows a brain drain). Apply a time line on it also and reviewed constantly for feedback and lessons learned(archive of this for future reference)

PL needs to get away from no gains and output useless exercises this shows an incompetent govt wasting valuable time that doesn't return anything valuable like terrorism, Mogadishu, Somali people. This is seen as unproductive of the worst order.

Let them be, your not their care taker, look after your own valuable time and direct it where there is gains.
