Your criticism in isolation is understandable, but do you maintain the same degree of conviction when it comes to European countries routinely taking African nations and leaders to the ICC and Hague, or do Europeans get a pass from you? What business does Europe have with the DRC besides the exploitation of Africans and their resources? At least Gambians have enough human decency to recognize a genocide without expecting anything in return. Europeans have more space to browbeat other people about human rights because they have done a better job in protecting minority rights within their own borders. That's why millions of Muslims and Somalis are willing to risk their lives literally to arrive in Europe. However, human rights is not the only concern that motivates European behavior. Often times, as you allude to, they are pursuing their own national interests in some way. But with this situation, Gambia not only has a poor record of protecting human rights within its own country, it also doesn't even seem to be pursuing any obvious national interest. It's a waste of resources and time---unless the Gambia government wants to use this issue to distract its population from their domestic troubles, which is a possibility.
