"What started as a local clan conflict between Reer Dalal and Surre clans has taken a different turn. Villa Somalia is now involved, and the so-called Irir Samaale alliance is the new phase of this TheVillaSomalia
driven clan conflict. Unable to defeat North Galgaduud, the city of Abudwaaq is now the target, Abudwaaq Airport in particular. This is a continuation of Villa Somalia's earlier plan of closing down certain airports in certain states and their rhetoric of going back to 1991. Whatever their intentions, let all know that we can't be intimidated, either by the federal government or its Irir group. We have kith and kin; we also have territories and the people to protect these territories ... The blockade on Abudwaaq Airport by the government has other politics behind it, and it is all about clan politics; however, we aren't people you can lock up and do as you wish. We will take steps to overcome Villa Somalia's blockade on Abudwaaq Airport. As for our people, it is high time we get our own airplanes independent of clan politics. This federal government is no longer a government for the Somali people. It is a clan-oriented government. Let us now take the necessary steps to free ourselves from these obstacles (simplified)."
While Abudwaaq Airport today enters its sixth day under blockade, both FGS and Galmudug Civil Aviation Authorities have issued statements that Abudwaaq Airport is open for business, but no plane has yet to land, and all airlines are telling the local authorities and the community leaders that they aren't allowed to land in Abudwaaq.
Similar to Abudwaaq, President
HassanSMohamud
has also declared Gedo region of the same Sade clan a no go region "controlled by Ethiopia" and all its airports could soon be looking a similar blockade as Abudwaaq.
