Gaddafi’s Puntland/SSDF Friendship

Many people don’t know but the Somalia government back in 1981 cut ties with Libya over their financial and military support to the SSDF, Gaddafi held a press conference later that day saying that he will continue to give the SSDF unlimited support.

Libya has been supporting the Somali Salvation Front, a guerrilla organization based in neighboring Ethiopia which seeks to overthrow Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre's 12-year-old government.

In a speech in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa Saturday, Khadafy said:

'We announce our unlimited support for the Somali National Salvation Front, because Somalia has transformed itself into a base for colonialism and imperialism and was mobilized to fight (against) the revolution in this region.'

Gaddafi would continue to support Puntland after the civil war with financial support and he even asked his old friends SSDF/Puntland to send 10,000 soldiers to protect him after the 2011 US led war in Libya began according to documents.

More recent documents showed that after the war broke out six months ago, Libya reached out to a former rebel group in the breakaway Somali state of Puntland, the Somali Salvation Front, asking them to send 10,000 fighters to Tripoli to help defend Gaddafi.

PL sending troops overseas is historically never going to happen. We never sent troops to Italy fighting the allied forces. We never sent troops to Yemen even though we used them to capture hobyo for us.
