I came across this blithering idiot atheist who is more qabilist than the morons over at somnet. Part of the reason I'm an atheist is to get away from the bullshit family ties and lineage that lead to the misery Somalia is in today. I can't believe there are "atheists" out there that hold qabil in high regard.

I'm not atheist but clan still matters because I'm proud of my family.

Qabil has nothing to do with Islam. Just bc they claim lineage to Prophet Mohammed due to Islamization, doesn't make it inherently intermingled with Islam as a concept. The entire world has had qabil systems.

Unfortunately, qabil is intertwined with identity in Somali culture.

For f*ck's sake, the person you were talking to lost her mother to qabil conflict, and you pretend to be shocked that she's a qabilist just bc she's atheist. I mean, come on.
Qabiil is a useless herd mentality that's done more harm than good. A Somali man's loyalty is to his immediate subclan and then to his larger clan, NOT to the rule of law or anything rational. That's fucking stupid. With Qabil, there is NO personal responsibility, rugged individualism is not encouraged etc.

It can and should be jettisoned.

Does being opposed to qabilists make you a qabilist since it's essentially the same concept of us vs them?

If followed to its logical conclusion everything can be an us vs. them analogy.

Being against qablist is not a hatred of qabil, but a rejection of its merits as a governmental system for governance or settling disputes in a civilized, hence the 26 years and continuing civil war.

Anyways @Axmed Xaji I have read some of your posts and you present terribly articulated arguments in your crusade here to de-convert Muslims from Islam.

But your attempt at trying to suggest that Islam is somewhat associated or perhaps fueling Qabil is absolute non-sense.
Seriously go take a hiatus again and come back with something better :mjlol:
The basis for qisas and diya (blood money) is derived from Muhammad's Quraish clan customs. Before you claim that it's divine law, other cultures have it too (Korea etc.). That concept in Islam discourages personal responsibility for one's actions and allows a murderer to walk free, depending on how the family of the victim feels (not the victim because he/she is dead). That bullshit made its way into Somali culture.

I agree. That doesn't change the reason for the strong charge behind clan loyalties. It's intertwined with one's best interests and family ties at the most basic level, and it's not something that can be shed. It's embedded in your very name.

It's self-sustaining. It feeds itself.

It's identity politics.

In the west, you'll come across people with a family name Smith, as an example. If Roger Smith, from the larger smith family, commits a crime, he goes to jail for it. His mom and dad might feel sorry for him but the Smith odayaal won't try to get him out. What I'm trying to say is that family ties are weaker in the west and it's working just fine.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an extremely intelligent woman. Christopher Hitches called her one of the greatest public intellectuals to come out of Africa.
If the so called worst of Majerteen is Ayaan Hirsi Ali, then i take it as a compliment. :pachah1:

Once again, I agree. You'll get ppl on here who actually think Somali clan law they call xheer(?) is a good system.

I still don't see qabil being abolished anytime soon. Heck, some diasporans shoot each other dead out here on the basis of qabil. I've only taken their word (actions) for it that they can't get along. You can't disregard history and the reality on the ground without reason bc of wishful thinking.

It doesn't have to be completely abolished. It should lose it's significance. I mean, nations are nations because of Qabil (either blood ties, religion or some other bonds). I get that we have more in common with each other than we do with people in Botswana; I'm just saying lets do rational things.
