Fulfilling needs & Assisting others

Its common to give advice and preach. But its great attainment to be aware of someone’s needs and make efforts to fulfill them. This is not to undervalue the importance of preaching, rather assisting people with their needs should constitute as part of calling people to Allah(swt).

This is an excerpt from one of Haji Abdul Wahab’s speeches. Its translated more or less. My notes are in brackets.

And we should provide food and drink to people. We should fulfill people’s some need or the other. This action is dearly beloved to Allah(swt).

Yusuf Kandhalvi (rah) used to say ” Even if a Non Muslim fulfills the needs of poor people; Allah’s unseen assistance is with them”. With that assistance (perhaps) Allah gives them guidance. Those people who are vulnerable, in need of assistance, having that concern to fulfill their needs, this is beloved to Allah.

What did Khadija (rad) say to Prophet (saw)?

Khadija said, “By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you, for by Allah,

(1) you keep good relations with your Kith and kin,

(2) speak the truth,

(3) help the poor and the destitute,

(4) entertain your guests generously and

(5) assist those who are stricken with calamities.” [Bukhari 4953]

When Khadija (rad) consoled him and took him to Waraqa bin Naufil, son of Khadija’s paternal uncle.

Allah (swt) was so pleased with this that Gabriel came to Prophet (saw) and said: “Allah’s Messenger, Khadija is coming to you with a vessel of seasoned food or drink. When she comes to you, offer her greetings from her Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, and on my behalf.” [Muslim 2432]

First ‘saalam’ (greetings) from Allah was given to Khadija (rad) not Abu Bakr (rad). So being useful to people in need, this is beloved to Allah(swt).

Thanks for this information well written. We should follow the examples of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) teaching and his wives teachings and the sahabas and not our own desires and whims which led majority of people to hellfire.
