Free trade

Somali is no way going to compete with Ethiopia, within the next 30 years Ethiopia could become a industrialized country. The best thing we could do is implement laissez faire policy with free trade with Ethiopia.

nope, what we need is fair trade not free trade. think about it somalia is a country which imports a lot and only exports livestock. what we need to do is to start producing somali goods from (processed jam to making toasters)

this will then employ local somalis, thus creating jobs and the money will then flow. the key is to create an economy where the money cycles. the problem now is that only a few people (importers) are making money.

The manufacturing of basic goods is not what the back bone of the Somali economy should be. We have a lot of advantages over ethiopia. Free trade is in our interest. Somalia should be focused on building its service sector like hospitals ports e commerce banking ports and logistics as well as high skilled manufacturing like the petrochemical industry.

The tribal communist politics already collapsed Somalia one time before.

Bordering 100m land locked people is as good as having 100 billion barrels of oil if you know how to take advantage of the situation. Free trade means both ways which means we'll have a monopoly over a 100m market to sell high skilled manufactoring too. Also we should be in the ship building and repairs industry.

wrong, free trade is useful for a country which has something to trade not for a country who only trades livestock. look for example germany "mittelstand" which is small to medium sized businesses are the backbone of the country and also employ the most.

how can you trade with anyone when you have nothing to offer? you must first create the industries and make somali manufactured goods cheaper then imported goods, here is where the government comes in and puts a tariff on imported goods. the somali businesses are now able to compete.

at some point we will need to implement free trade for somalia to grow from a middle sized economy to a first tier economy.Without even trading with other countries Somalia can drastically increase it GDP. Again the most important aspect is employment and you do that by creating industries and not importing everything.

once somalia conquers its own market then you open the country up. Somalia at this moment is a free trading and it is hurting anyone who even tries to setup a manufacturing company because there will be someone else who will go to china and buy a whole container and flush the market with cheap Chinese goods.

fair trade is what we need to free trade.

what you guys fail to understand is that importing is what is keeping africa from becoming a developed nations. Importing goods means taking money out of africa and buying manufactured goods from china/europe.

africa must stop importing stuff, i guarantee you business will pop up overnight to fill in the gaps which will then create jobs.

africa at this moment is like what europe was in 1800's and in the 1800's all europeans tried to be as closed off from each other as possible.

Focus on natural resources like oil and trade with the rest of the world, we should have no trade with Ethiopia though and box them out from using our seas, luckily enough no landlocked economy ever prospers so there’s no way they will ever compete with us economically

We have to make sure our populace have this in abundance and economic growth will skyrocket.

Once people don't have to worry about these, we'll be advanced
