Former US ambassador to Somalia claims Mogadishu was majority Swahili speaking city

Swahili substratum would have been prevalent in Benadiri dialects if that were the case but all we have is Somali dialects. Swahili is only spoken by a small group in Barawe (another Somali name lol) which shows Swahili was an insignificant language in Somalia. Ibn Batuta did not see any Swahili being spoken in Xamar.

This is the level of discourse from westerners when it comes to Africans! Why so surprised. If he were telling the truth, why does no one speak Swahili anymore? Why isn’t Somali more Swahili influenced? Where did they all go?

We have a direct eye witness account of a medieval Mogadishan sultan by Ibn Battuta who flat out says the Sultan spoke Somali. Many Arab geographers considered Mogadishu as part of Barbaria aka Somalia as opposed to Al-Zanj aka the Swahili coast.

These "Xamar was Swahili" shills should be ignored.
