First Somali communities in America

As we all know the first documented Somalis to touch down in North America were seaman who came off the ships in New York in the early 1900s and across the eastern seaboard they were some of the first African immigrants in the United States they settled along the east coast mainly nyc

another group of Somalis came during the Second World War to mainly to buffalo New York they numbered in the hundreds they worked in the factories and plants in buffalo during the war

If anybody knows anything about older Somali communities in North America feel free to add

Hundreds perhaps thousands of Somalis lived in buffalo during ww2 according to a Somali elder they seem to have assimilated into the African American community in buffalo at the time

Did I lie? idk how she’s being so choosy with such a small pool in her mid 30s at that, setting herself up for inevitable failure. It’s frustrating to watch

Any sane xalimo would snatch up that gem in a heartbeat

They have probably assimilated by now. It only takes one generation and there’s been 3 since then.

That’s true the population I’m guessing was mainly men so they couldn’t really build a Somali community there’s probably some black Americans with Somali heritage in the New York area and across the east coast
