Somalis didn't acquire many firearms. Historically the somali troops of Adal fought with swords, spears, knifes and arrows. The only ones who were armed with firearms were yemeni trained yemeni mercenaries. Fire arms were relatively new all over the world and extremely new in Africa, mass production would have required tecnical assistance from countries who had already a good knowledge of how to use and produce fire arms. The ottomans were the only power who could provide somalis with firearms but they didn't. Its likely that a few somali troops used fire arms in the 16th century but the these types of weapons didn't become mainstream untill the 1800sSomalis acquired arabesques as early as 1480. My Question is, why didn’t they Mass produce them?
