AU troops staying means the west stays engaged in Somalia. These glorified last line of defence would crumble without US air support and even ground support evidenced by the missions history and the recent Bariire re-re-recapture.

because everyone and their mother knew the SNA still wasn't ready. They needed more time bolstering the army and training a larger officer class. The SNA was also being groomed to take over from ATMIS and had to make sure they were able to take over full responsibility for national security.

Security (in the capital) is on upwards trajectory, it will continue to get better as time moves on. However the national situation seems to be on a downward trajectory. We have towns liberated during HSM first term back under AS control. Not to mention all of the recent gains have been undone. No the SNA has not improved under HSM infact it has become worse. The SNA at day 1 of HSM 2.0 is 10x better than the one today.

Also them problem of little or zero pay to soldiers haunted the goverment because of the rampant corruption in the MoD (this problem wasn't limited to the army but the entirety of the government. All of this was solved under Faarmajo who also increased the number of soldiers in the SNA who were now better equipped and trained and had their pay on time.
