Fgm and population growth

Female genital mutilation ( fgm ) is a horrible practise, a remnant of our jaahil past. It should be eradicated immediately. No girl should go through and those who practise this unislamic practise should be held accountable.

With all that said, I was wondering why the population of somalis and cushites as whole, was not bigger. It dawned me, that one likely reason is Fgm. If fgm is done to a girl, she might die in the process of it, leading to less women who can have children. If the girl survives, she has high chance to die in childbirth and illnesses caused by fgm.

Without a doubt fgm is a factor that limits population growth. Hyphotetically if there would be no fgm, the population of somalis and cushites as whole would have been bigger. Interesting premise.

This is true, but fgm added an unnessecary high risk for girls. Also maternal mortality rate affects population growth.

Actually, for a group that has such meager resources, and carry many life-threating practices & traits, we are actually quite large (25 million).

But yeah, even if FGM is practiced, Somalis would still have babies. Many used to have a lot of wives (usually up to 3-4), and conceive many children, regardless of how painful and dreadful it is for the wife. It's one of the many practices I would to like to see abandoned in the foreseeable future, if possible.
