Someone said to me that Somalis used to fight over resources and camels, the clan that has the most camels is a rich one, and when Somalia was unified every clan wanted the new big camel and that was Somalia. But the Somalia became fail state and every clan now has it own little camel; federal states. Federal states are a perfect thing to have to those who have this mentality.

He is absolutely right in his diagnosis, the end point of federalism in Somalia is probably disintegration. The center cannot hold in the long term, the FGS lacks the power to collect taxes from the federal states. The only thing keeping it afloat is aid from the international community. The FGS also lacks the military force necessary for it to forcibly extract these taxes from the federal states. Somalia as a nation state was doomed the minute federalism was adopted. Somalia today is actually not a federation but a confederation. Each federal state has the power to limit movement across its borders, there is no country on earth where a state government can block movement across its borders. The breakup of Somalia will mean greater freedom for all people currently imprisoned in this colonial creation.

Depends on your clan to be totally honest;

Hawiye + Dhulbahante are more inclined towards centralism, due to either wanting more power in their backyard or because of getting the short end of the stick in regards to Federalism.

Federalism to other Darood + Raxanweyne is like the second amendment to the Americans, they are 100% for federalism

My honest opinion is that federalism isn't suitable for Somalia

Decentralized power only works for an overwhelmingly educated society. Of course it won’t work in somalia where upwards of 90% of the people don’t even understand what federalism entails.

somalia would see better days if the people come up with their own system.

My honest opinion is that we shouldn't be a federal state, centralism would be far preferable economically but I know it's easy for me to say as someone from Xamar.
Hawiye are not losers in federalism they have two states, But yes dhulbuhante are for centralism

We need to have mixed system a typ of community consensus based system with decentralizing cooperatives making up the state, With a strong benevolent dictator, A lot of these so called clan elders have to be killed

The colonialists still rule Somalia and whatever they say goes this federalism was also colonialist creation itself you actually think Somalis came up with federalism on their own the idea came from Ethiopia and Meles Zenawi with the backing of the Western powers but Meles was a genius he ruled centrally and federalism was just lip service to give Ethiopian the impression they actually had a say in their affairs you on the other hand believe in it

On what planet would Somali's be better off by the breakup of Somalia? The HDI of every region in Somalia was higher in 2006 than in 2018 has consistently gone down the more decentralized the country has become and only started to rise when a government was established in 2012.

In Somalia, more decentralization will equal less development and progress.

Federalism isn’t a colonial creation I don’t know why people entertain this obvious lie. Is it because they think Somalis can’t think for themselves?

Dude seriously go get an education stop misleading people because it doesn't fit your narrative :snoop:

Similarly, some of the federations in Africa were created as the result of the decision of colonial powers to use federalism as “a formula for the unification of territorial units of separate antecedents.” [3] A prime example is Nigeria, which was established as a result of the decision to bring together, in 1914, “the two contiguous British protectorates of Northern and Southern Nigeria”.

Why Some People still stick to Centralism!,we had Civil war, many people died and still people saying Centralism is good?. Those saying we are Centralism fans, let them show us prove on the ground in their areas. Reality Says PL is more better than 1991. Any Puntlander will say federalism cause each PL village have education, work, food, airports, ports, security..etc. Before 1991 we use to have to go to Xamar for education, work, Xamar airport was the only International Airport across Somalia.

Swiss implement Federalism. Their country size is smaller then Somalia but see how they life.

UAE is another success example.

If you guys dont start build your land and stop give advice to others. You will not reach any where.
