Homogenous? Somalis are not homogenous, we are divided into different tribes which behave like ethnic groups. An Oromo, Amhara and Tigray from Orthodox, Protestant and Muslim backgrounds will unite and put aside their differences whereas so called “homogenous” Somalis will never unite and will always fight each other. We will always be a failed state.

@Roman this debacle shows that Somalia has the best prospects for long-term longevity.

If Farmaajo, who is seen by his critics as a dictator, can be effectively neutered by his legislature and other mechanisms of governance, then Somalia has a good bill of political health. If Farmaajo peacefully hands over power to his successor, then the prospects get better still.

Can Ethiopia and Eritrea honestly look at themselves and say that their countries do not have an expiry date? Ethiopia is an ethnically and religious fractured country held by a widely disliked dictator suppressing tensions with an iron fist. Eritrea is Africa's North Korea.

If these countries go through half of the political turbulence Somalia did in the last few years, it wouldn't be ending peacefully.
