Some Somali women value having a bigger body when they get older because it makes them look more like a "marwo", like the woman of the house and the wife. It's a symbol of stability, their marriage and their status in society (at least this is what I've heard).

They also argue that a woman looks better in diraacs when they have more meat on them. The big diraacs they wear doesn't swallow them up.
