The pipeline creates economic entanglements that will further strengthen EU-Russia relations while undermining US regional primacy. US officials worry that strengthening ties between Moscow and Europe could eventually lead to the abandonment of the US dollar which would end its lofty role as the worlds reserve currency. In fact, it is very likely that Washington concocted the present crisis in Ukraine with the explicit intention of sabotaging nordstream which is still in limbo due to relentless US meddling. This explains why the US has gone to such lengths to stop nordstream from transporting natural gas from Russia to Germany.
