Because Australia was booming while North America and Europe were stagnating. Those that came here werent sheep and took a risk and bet on Australia. Now Melbourne and Sydney are global cites with good standards of living.

Because Australia is a great country with one of the highest standards of living in the world. Melbourne was voted as the world's most liveable city for 7 years in a row until it lost it's title to Vienna. It's still ranked top 5 though
