EU military trainer who spent 6 months in Mogadishu wrote on Twitter a devastating assessment on the bleak future of Somalia

I think he meant the people. Somali leaders and it’s people are very short sighted and tribalist. The Ukrainians seem to have a common goal whether there is war or not. There more united, it’s just more evident in war.
somalis are treacherous and ready to sell themselves and somalia for a few pennies in a single heartbeat. we are a nation of uncle toms.

And we should also learn from other African nation. All the most disastrous African countries at the moment like Niger ,Mali, Congo DRC, Central African Republic and Somalia have one thing in common which is overwhelming foreign presence wether it's France, EU, Usa, Un or AU.
Rwanda after the genocide was pretty much left alone , they thought they would never recover and yet they did and found reconciliation. The level of hostility between Somali clans is high but never at the level of Hutu vs Tutsi. To this day Darood, Hawiye, Rahanweyn etc marry each other , live with each other, work with each other etc. We never had a true opportunity to sit down and talk amongst us, the foreign aid and their influence leads to more opportunities to be greedy. If they left as alone after 1991 we would have found a solution.

I'm saying this as someone who doesn't hide his kacaanist sympathies and absolutely hates the USC. I'm 100% sure that the USC would have found a workable solution to end the civil war if the USA/UN hadn't intervened and messed everything up by supporting one of the two factions.

While I agree foreign aid has been destabilizing to Somalia, I do not agree with the notion that Somalis never had an opportunity to sit down and talk. There were plenty of opportunities from 1978 up to 1989. Up to that moment, the central government had the upper hand. The apposition movement encroaching into Mogadishu have no incentive to negotiate with the already weakened and discredited government. At that point, it has been 10 years since the rebellion broke out. The window was over for a diplomatic solution.

There is a great deal of contradictions in your assessment. Foreign aid was always there before the Somali civil war. Somalia was a net importer nation (mainly of weapons) The introduction of modern heavy weaponry to be used by National Army under the guise of national security has given the Darood government an undue advantage. Why would they negotiate with apposition when they can use brute force and repress any sort of discontent, why would USC or Hawiye settle for negotiations when government is clearly losing and Mogadishu is on sight distance.

A Hawiye or USC sympathizer could flip the premise on you. The Soviet and American military aid has distorted the balance of power in Somalia by empowering one side (the Marexan led government) against the rest. Is it fair to conclude that Somalis never had an opportunity to sit down and talk because outside powers flood the country with weapons?

In a nutshell, Somalis love for begging and free handouts led to our demise. Why else would Somalis on Twitter post never ending parades of the SNA in the 1980s? Somalis long for a central government and strong army due to the civil war is understandable, but we had them for 20 years prior, and they led to a civil war.

The notion that Somalis never had an opportunity to sit down and talk is false. We never negotiated in good faith because one side was overpowered and had no reason to sit down, be it the Kacaan, USC, TFG or ICU.

Not understanding the arguments against aid I’m seeing above ^^ Somalia was aid dependent for its entire existence going back to Somali Republic kacaan days was heavily dependent on aid as well. The issue isn’t aid. The issue is what’s been causing Somalis to be aid dependent since the 60s/70s? Somali republic ranked along the lowest metrics of all African nations. This myth about “golden days” to me is what damages Somalis the most. How can you fix yourselves if you constantly lie to yourselves about your reality ?

You have to get to the root of the problem which is simply corruption , laziness , lack of cohesion , and not working toward a common goal.

Yep. Only Kacaanist believe there was a golden age. In the 70s my dad fled due to the woeful economic situation. Siyad’s nationalisation and cronyism didn’t allow the public to create their own wealth.

What he means is people aren't United against selfish politicians whom are there to enrich themselves, unity comes from the people and not the crooked politicians that claims to represent them, Somalia will be shithole untill it's citizens move away supporting their leaders because of tribe and such.

Exactly. We need to realize politicians don't really care about qabil that much, they only care about their personal power and they use qabil as a tool to be more relevant. When somalis realize that it's us (the people )against them (the corrupt elite) our country will prosper.

Bro,you post all these righteous things online and on here yet you support the same men who made in this Somalia miserable position we are in the first place, MSB was and still is biggest reason we are a shithole still.

This white man doesn’t understand that somalis are happy with a very simple lifestyle and a disfunctional state, people want to eat bariis and canjeelo the rest of their lives and chill out in cafes
