This map and pie-chart are roughly color coded, with red hues indicating a Ethio-Semitic language, yellow hues indicating a Cushitic language, blue indicating a Nilo-Saharan language, and Teal indicating a Central Semitic Language (the sole representative in this case being Arabic).

Honestly this a super useful map ive been wondering exactly how the pouplation is distributed in eritrea. I think all it might need is some info like where the major cities are distributed

Thanks! I too saw the lack of maps on this subject and had to act.

I see you are in discussion about the Red Sea, I could not find even somewhat modern data on the Dahlak islands but the only Italian census of 1931 says there were 2,275 people total, of which 1,475 were Tigre, 475 were Arabs, and 325 were Afar. This probably has not changed much because currently the population of the islands is around 2,500.

The Tigre stat is a bit high because the Italians regarded the Dahlik people as Tigre, which they are not- the Dahlik people (the indigenous people of the Island) arrived in the 4th century and thus had alot of time to mingle with the Arabs and Afar, have special cultural , and linguistic features, and develop their own identity. The Tigre showed up at the end of the Futuh when some of them ran to the safety of the islands from Amharic reprisals against Muslims in the area (Also a few came before then due to slave raids).

What is the difference between Tigray and Tigrinya and those in Ethiopia, they have similar names I think they have the same language, but these are Muslims and these are Christians.

I believe this will answer your question.
