Ethiopia is filling the GERD dam

I don’t understand why Somalis are hating on the dam in Ethiopia for the sake of Egypt. This dam will benefit all horn of African countries including Somalis in galbeed and Somalia.

If they build a dam on the nile then they might also build a dam on our jubba and shabelle rivers

I could agree with you but then we’d both be wrong

The Renaissance Dam is enough for Ethiopia and the whole region. If Ethiopia succeeds with filling that Dam then they wouldn't need to build another one.

They will.
Actually if due to some reasons they fail to fill it and use the dam then their sights would be on our rivers... But if they succeed there's a less chance of them ever glancing at our rivers. That's why I support this Renaissance Dam project to succeed.

The dams are being build as we speak.
On both rivers.

I hope our neighbors understand what hydroelectric dams are all about. They only reduce the water for a limited time until the dams are filled, which btw are normally done during the rainy season. After that the water continues its regular flow as before. As you can watch on the above Genale video, a dam is even sometimes forced to let water flow after the amount of its capacity is reached. It can't hold an unlimited amount of water as some imply.

Ethiopia has an ambitious national development plan to deliver 100% electricity by 2025. Of course the big mega dams alone can't deliver this because of the rural nature of many communities. It also has set up an off-grid and private sector managed development plan. Anyway, we are not here to harm our neighbors. However, by hook or by crook we are determined to get out of poverty asap and guaranteeing electricity supply is one of the most key factors for development. So wish us luck and success! :ftw9nwa:

Why would a Somali support Egypt. The only reasonable position is to hate both. At least with a developing Ethiopia, some of it will positively impact Somalia.

Egypt is one of the most corrupt and poorly run nation on earth.

LET THE WAR BEGIN :damn:

Just for correction: I've heard the original VOA Amharic report. The translation given here is not accurate in my view. The report doesn't say "A satellite image shows that Ethiopia has started filling the dam". The correct translation would be rather "Satellite images show that the GERD dam has started holding water". The report doesn't clarify whether this is due to natural causes like rain or because of Ethiopia actively started filling the dam. The official date of the filling of the dam starts on Tuesday next week.

Mashallah. It's a good start but IDK what all the fuss is about. the dams only produce 6000 MW. For example Egypt produces 58,100MW yearly and yet millions of Egyptians still don't have any access to electricity. Ethiopia needs much more.

On the other hand it looks like Egypt is about to go all out in Libya. This is the best time to start filling lmao.

Feel conflicted. Want Africa to develop but don't want Ethiopia to get stronger.

If it wasn't for our own shitty progress I wouldn't be so threatened by this dam.

Ethiopia is already light years ahead of Somalia, yet Somalis think they're in competition...
