I hope our neighbors understand what hydroelectric dams are all about. They only reduce the water for a limited time until the dams are filled, which btw are normally done during the rainy season. After that the water continues its regular flow as before. As you can watch on the above Genale video, a dam is even sometimes forced to let water flow after the amount of its capacity is reached. It can't hold an unlimited amount of water as some imply.
Ethiopia has an ambitious national development plan to deliver 100% electricity by 2025. Of course the big mega dams alone can't deliver this because of the rural nature of many communities. It also has set up an off-grid and private sector managed development plan. Anyway, we are not here to harm our neighbors. However, by hook or by crook we are determined to get out of poverty asap and guaranteeing electricity supply is one of the most key factors for development. So wish us luck and success!
