A lawyer by profession and a well known activist for women's rights, she is a Nobel peace prize nominee, Gender Advisor UNECA, founding Executive Director of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association and Founding Chair of Enat Bank (a bank that empowers women). Ethiopians across the board are applauding PM Abiy for this pick calling it as one of the best picks.

In her first interview after getting the post, she said her first job is to restore public trust in Ethiopia's judiciary.

Abiy is playing around. We all know his intention in to eliminate the somalis , afars and hararis. He shall continue being a slave to his habashit masters

this is some elite level of pandering to the west :wowsweat:

She fought to change many of oppressive laws for women while working as the Executive Director of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association. There is even a film (DIFRET) about her work how she successfully fought for the right of a young woman that killed a man who tried to rape her. This case was a means for amending many of the oppressive laws. Believe me she is a real deal and not just a quota/stunt! She is well known by Ethiopians as a fighter for justice! That is why she is getting a wider acceptance.

Who wants to pander to the East or the Middle East
Atleast we have things in common with the west:trumpsmirk:

You are correct sis. It is not about pandering to the west but our people sacrificed so many lives to achieve a just and democratic system and this lady fought her whole life for womens rights. Since we fought for the same values as in the west, of course the west will love to see this. But this woman is known by Ethiopians to stand and fight for justice and is fully qualified to the post.

Just two days ago, the World Bank approved a USD 1.2 Billion financing to support the reforms of PM Abiy. We of course welcome that. The core values of the west i.e. secularism, freedom, liberty and democratic values for all, including for women is what we want to achieve fully. That makes the west our natural partner.

It was a good PR move.

African countries need to think more about their image as that helps with foreign investment flows.

And more. Reforming the judiciary is one of the core components that PM Abiy said will do and with such high caliber lawyer and well known human rights activist, he is on the right truck to deliver it. The judiciary branch is simply too important to be just a PR stunt. PM Abiy got both right, the right person and a woman (which can be seen as a PR) but she is qualified through and through.

Abiye is also seen as the Macron/Trudeau of East Africa. Young, liberal, and fresh.

Ethiopia could boom over the 21st century if it manages to keep the ethnic divisions in check.

You are absolutely right. The litmus test for PM Abiy is how he manages the ethnic division that was purposely implemented by TPLF to divid and rule. May God help PM Abiy, we all support him and pray that he succeeds.
