How do people who help non English speakers be so patient teaching them English?

I was teaching my cousin once because she could not pronounce pig, she would say "BIG" I was getting mad after a year she still couldn't say it. So I told her she needs to enrol in a ESOL class cause I don't have the patience lol

I can relate to her struggles, I used to roll my R's when teachers told me to pronounce a word starting with R in Grade 1. It took me untill Grade 4 to stop rolling my R's like a fob.
