Egypt receives the first batch of SU-35 jet fighters

Egypt has received 5 brand new SU-35 advanced jet fighters from Russia. It is the first batch. By the end of this year Egypt will have a total of 24 SU-35s.

It is a game changer if the Egyptian pilots are experts in their field. It seems Russia is expediting the deliveries to Egypt to offset the Turkish military build up in Libya. If the pilots are potatoes, then SU-35s will become another Pantsir story in Libya.

Turkey is visibly upset with the development as the Turks know from their experience in Syria that SU-35 can penetrate their air defenses and give a run for money to their upgraded F-16s.

Turkey is in talks with the US to get reinstated in the F-35 program. I find it odd since F-35 was not designed for dog fights but stealth operations with attacks at distance. The US is not happy with the news as well. It will be interesting to see how this situation develops.

By the way, Israeli Air Force doesn't like confronting the Russian SU-35s in Syria.

It is a multi-role air superiority fighter that is highly maneuverable due to its thrust-vectoring. It is good for dog fights and air defense. With advanced avionics and modern weapons, this jet is a beast.

Traditionally the Russian jet fighters are expensive to maintain as their life expectancy is about half of the US equivalents. So, they require twice as much maintenance, including engines.

In what scenario can Turkey receive F-35 while still keeping S400?

The US voiced three possible ways to resolve the issue so far:
1) Turkey keeps the S-400s but never deploys them.
2) Turkey returns it to Russia
3) Turkey hands over S-400s to the US

Turkey is saying no to the above options and wants to keep it and be able to purchase F-35s.

The irony here is that to this day Turkey builds and supplies the major parts of the F-35s and also manufactures the SOM cruise missiles for use in F-35s.

The US is tempted to sell because Turkey wants to purchase at least 100 F-35s plus additional modified F-35s for its upcoming aircraft carrier. It is a big buy.

So, both the US and Turkey are playing "who blinks first" game.
